The city is an important economic center of commerce, services and industry. The municipality comprises part of the most fertile lands of the region, the great valley of Cova da Beira, where the Zêzere River passes and its numerous tributary streams. Large productions of cherries, the county's ex-libris, cherries, peaches, olive oil and wine are made. In the municipality of Fundão there are about 300 cherry producers who offer direct employment during the cherry season to close to 2,000 people. Fundão's cherry and the products created with this fruit represent more than 20 million euros per year in the local economy.
In the Industrial Zone , several industries and trades of interest have been developed, such as the processing of wood, granite, glass and swimming pools, and a special investment in the jewelry parts polishing industry. In this area there are several hotels, restaurants and swimming pools with tourist interest. There are also the newly created Industrial Park of Gardunha Sul, in the parish of Soalheira, which houses industrial units of cheese production, and the Industrial Park of Silvares.
