Arganil

Some authors mention that Arganil was founded by the Romans, and others cite the Lusitanians. The oldest vestiges in the history of the municipality of arganil are located in Lomba do canho and Dolmem dos Moinhos de Vento, very close to the village of Arganil. Due to the chronology of its construction and occupation, centered on the second and third barracks of the 1st century BC, well before the creation of the province of Lusitania, the military installation corresponds to a phase of appropriation of the territory by the Romans.

Also in Coja it is possible to perceive the existence of occupation in older times. The gold riches of the Alva River and Ribeira da Mata, whose exploitation since ancient times has been recognized by multiple testimonies on its banks, will have been a factor of attraction of people to this region, located in a nodal point of the road network.
