Choose your Route
In the West there are routes created with all explorers in mind. Depending on your interest in discovering the greatest treasures of the historical, cultural or religious heritage of the West, when crossing the lands of this region, you will find specific routes that will lead you to know the richness of the region.  
The Route of Castles and Fortresses offers a trip to the past through the memory of the places that defended the Kingdom of Portugal that includes the Fort of Peniche and the Castle of Óbidos.  To know and participate in the oldest regional traditions, the Ceramics Route, the Mills Route and the Wine Route are your best options. And do not forget the Route of the Monasteries, in which you can observe the charm of the most beautiful monasteries in Portugal, such as that of Alcobaça.
 
 
Observe Nature
The forests of the West region invite you to rest outdoors in the boisterable landscapes, perfect for bird watching. On the fine sand of Óbidos Lagoon, you will have the opportunity to find rare animals. In the Serra de Montejunto, the rhythm of nature invites you to meet more than 115 species of birds that pass through here during the year. If you prefer to accompany bird watching with a little sport, choose Nazaré or Peniche for your stay and enjoy one of the best surfing destinations in the world, interspersing with the observation of migratory birds in the best places in Europe to do so.
 
 
Adventure at Sea
For lovers of the sea, the West is a true world of nautical activities. Theclear waters of berlengas offer you a real sanctuary for diving and fishing. With frequent visibility at 50 metres, underwater landscapes range from sunken ships to World War II aircraft.

In the recreational port of Peniche, Nazaré and the Bay of S. Martinho do Porto you will find several boats and, for the bravest, there are several schools dedicated to sea sports, which you can resort to to practice water sports.
Peniche, Santa Cruz and Nazaré, beaches where important events are developed at the highest international level, are a must stop for lovers of surfing. Beaches such as Santa Rita, Areia Branca, Baleal, Foz do Arelho also offer excellent conditions for the practice of wave sports.
 
The Óbidos Lagoon has exceptional conditions for canoeing, sailing, rowing and windsurfing and stand up paddleboarding. If you have never tried any of these modalities, there are several schools that can help you get started in these sports.
