Penela

The occupation of the municipality of Penela dates back to distant times. The Castle of Penela is believed to have had as its basis a Lusitanian fort, used by the Romans during the invasion of the Iberian Peninsula by their armies. These, in addition to the hill corresponding to Penela, also erected a "half-slope" in the parish of Rabaçal, between a ridge with grove and a stream, next to a road that would connect the current cities of Lisbon and Braga.

Although Penela does not have access to the railway line, it is easy to access by car to this region, whose historical-archaeological heritage is worthy of visit and appreciation, for contributing in a great way to the growth of the region and to the culture and history of the country.

Castelo Penela

Currently divided into four parishes, we can find two industrial areas, designed with the enrichment of the economic dynamics of the municipality. On the one hand, it has excellent road access and, on the other hand, with a wide range of facilities and incentives that it grants to all potential investors or entrepreneurs. In this industrial center, companies were installed in the areas of civil construction, metalworking, confections, medical-hospital consumables, sawmill of wood and transformation of ornamental rocks. In addition to the companies located in industrial areas, the industries related to the forest and the food sector stand out in the municipality.

Once in the county, also enjoy the view of the viewpoints and its river beaches, or the vast set of churches and convents that punctuate the parishes that are part of the municipality. In gastronomy, indulge in serra cheese, honey from the region, chanfana and boiling. Finish your meal with a sweet rice, Penela rings or merendeiras. Accompany with the regional wine of Terras do Sicó.
