Sertã

The Municipality of Sertã is located in the central region of Portugal, castelo branco district.  The first signs of settlement of the region are given to us by the existence of tapirs and castros. At the same time, we find artistic manifestations engraved on the rock scattered throughout the parishes of the municipality.

Legend has it that in the times of Sertorius, the fortification was attacked by the Romans. In the melee, a brave Lusitano will have died. His wife, Celinda, upon having learned of his death, and frying eggs in a frying pan, will have poured the boiling olive oil on the enemy, who was thus prevented from taking the fortress. Para memory of such a feat was given the name of Sertã to the village.

In the days of the Establishment of the Republic, the village played an important role in the dissemination of republican ideals throughout the district of Castelo Branco, having left its limits some of the notables who played an important role in this episode of the history of Portugal.  the municipality has registered a huge development, claiming itself today as one of the main municipalities of this area of the country.

The village of Sertã is located in a shale valley, in a forested area with predominance of wild pine and eucalyptus. The olive tree is another frequent species in the local
 flora.

The town is bathed by two streams, the Ribeira da Sertã, also known as ribeira Grande, and the amioso river or small stream. The entire west of the municipality is bounded by the River Zêzere, more specifically by the reservoirs of the cabril, bouçã and Castelo de Bode dams. The large body of water influences the climate making it quite humid.

Sertã
The village offers good chances of leisure and free time to its inhabitants and tourists. Walk the thematic routes of the villages, enjoy the river beaches, taking advantage of water sports, or get to know the cultural heritage of the municipality.

In gastronomy, the maranho is king. The stuffed loofah is another of the delicacies you can taste in the region. For dessert, it is worth giving a chance to the almond cartridges of Cernache bonjardim.

Sertã is a municipality full of natural wealth, surrounded by water and trees, where you can enjoy relaxed moments with family or friends. Go on the adventure.
