Trancoso


The ancient village of Trancoso welcomes visitors in a medieval setting that transports them to a distant time. Due to its unique characteristics and its state of preservation, it is part of the program of the "Historical Villages of Portugal". Set on a vast plateau, Trancoso stands out in the landscape with its castle and waist of walls.

Despite its importance and markedly historical character, the municipality has been strongly committed to the modernization and construction of infrastructure dedicated to services and structures to support the well-being and convenience of the suuas resident and visiting populations. Thus, there are times of undeniable urban growth and social and economic development in the municipality. The development strategy that has been implemented is based on encouraging productive investment, improving the quality of life of the population, urban rehabilitation works, valuing historical heritage, developing tourism and continuing the focus on vocational education and training.

In tourism, visit the Municipal Park, which invites you to exercise through its maintenance circuit; the chapel of St. Bartlomy, monument commemorating the wedding of D. Dinis with Queen St. Elizabeth. After crossing the Portas d'El Rei, and already inside the historic center, be sure to know the old Jewish Quarter, the Town Hall, the Manueline Pillory, the Church of Mercy and the Church of St. Peter where the poet-prophet Bandarra is buried, the headquarters of General Beresford, the Ducal Palace, the Church of Santa Maria de Guimarães, the Rua dos Cavaleiros and the medieval castle.  the Fountain of Vide, the Fonte Nova and the Convent of the Friars.
 
Through regional gastronomy you can outline the past and traditions of this land. Dishes such as bacalhau à S. Marcos, the cabrito roasted in the oven, the caldeirada de kid, the stew of míscaros, the andnguias à S. Bartolomeu, the beef bola and the cod pataniscas are some of the hypotheses you have at the table when visiting the municipality of Trancoso. Of the regional products, we highlight the torresmos,and varied nchidos and the presunto and the cheese of the Serra. In the sweets, let yourself be delighted with the sweet sardines of Trancoso, a bola de chocolate, a bola de folhas, a bola de ovos or folar, flhlhós or coscoréis, cavacas, bolo de castanhas, requeijão with pumpkin jam, the migas stuffed with Palhais, o doce lavagas de Sebadelhe da Serra.
