Historic village of Monsanto

Historic village of Monsanto

He was granted a charter by D. Afonso Henriques, D. Sancho I, D. Sancho II and D. Manuel.
The oldest part is at the highest point, where the Knights Templar built a fence with a keep. To this structure is later added another one, rhythmic by towers, with two uneven enclosures. The first includes a cistern and the Church of Santa Maria. At the bottom, the main door of the fence is torn off. Outside the walls, the primitive settlement around the Chapel of St. Michael, a small treasure of Romanesque architecture, is defended by a low fence. Overlooking the cluster, now in ruins, stands the Tower of Pião.
